    UTILITIES SERVICES MANAGER

    THE POSITION

    The City of Mountain View is seeking an experienced professional to manage the Utilities Section of the Public Works Department.  The Utilities Section is responsible for operating and maintaining the City’s water distribution and wastewater collection systems, water quality, recycled water distribution and infrastructure maintenance programs.

    PRIORITIES

    The successful candidate will have extensive management and utilities industry experience, including a history of completing large operational projects.  Knowledge of the changing technical and regulatory climate is critical, as is the ability to lead and prepare employees for promotional opportuni­ties in a dynamic environment.  The successful candidate will also possess strong personnel management and customer service skills and the ability to maintain a safe work environment.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    The position requires five years of increasingly responsible experience in public works and water utility management, including two years of supervi­sory responsibility; equivalent experience in waste­water utility management is highly desirable.  Training should include the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a major in engineering, environmental management, water resources, business or public administration, or a related field.

    In addition, this position requires possession of the following certifications (recently revised): a Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator and Grade 2 or higher Water Distribution Operator certification issued by the California Department of Public Health.  A Grade 3 Water Distribution Operator and Grade 2 CWEA Collection System Maintenance certifications are highly desirable.  Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Preemployment and periodic respiratory and hearing examinations may be required for this classification.  In addition to the regular work schedule, this position must be available to work evenings and weekends to attend meetings, City events and relevant conferences as needed.

    SELECTION PROCESS

    Application and resumé screening will be part of the examination process.  Based on screening, the most appropriately qualified applicants will be invited to continue in the testing process which may include a written exercise and panel interviews (weighted 100 percent).  Depending on the number of finalists, the selection process may be modified.
