Bioblitzes

Bioblitzes are a wonderful gateway into deeper forms of community and citizen science. During a bioblitz, local volunteers work together to record as many species as they can within a designated location and time period. Most often, we collect records of any and all species, but a bioblitz can also focus on a single category, such as birds, or even a specific species, such as a rare plant. These super fun and engaging events connect people to their environment while generating useful data for science and conservation. Join a bioblitz and get inspired to dive deeper into watershed ecology. By bringing together naturalists, scientists, and curious members of the public, bioblitzes offer a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to share their knowledge and appreciation of local ecosystems.

We’re inviting everybody – adults and kids, naturalists and newbies, seasoned scientists and backyard birders – to see their watersheds from a fresh perspective. Become a citizen scientist, and meet your local ecosystems up close. With iNaturalist, science starts with a picture. Snap photographs of plants and animals in their watershed habitats, and record your observations with the iNaturalist app. Looking to dive deeper into your waterhood with other citizen scientists in your community?
