    About Nature in the City
    Nature in the City is the first and only organization wholly dedicated to the ecological restoration and stewardship of San Francisco’s biodiversity, wildlife habitats and natural areas through connecting urban people and nature where we live. We have a robust program of advocacy, public education, fostering natural areas stewardship throughout the city, including our own habitat restoration projects in the Twin Peaks Bioregion.

    Job Description
    This is a new position made possible by the San Francisco JOBS NOW program (see below). The successful candidate will be an ecological steward in the Green Hairstreak Corridor and Twin Peaks Bioregion, working closely with the RPD Natural Areas Program and the community:
    Planning and leading weeding and planting work parties
    Building community, agency, and institutional partnerships
    Implementing community education, outreach and volunteer recruitment
    The Green Hairstreak Corridor is an exciting community ecological stewardship project, which mission is to restore connections between two disjunctive Green Hairstreak butterfly populations in Golden Gate Heights via native plant restoration along the urban corridor. For this and other stewardship projects, we engage the local community to build relationships with their local biodiversity, natural areas and each other.

    Minimum Qualifications
    – Excellent oral, written and electronic communication, and exceptional people skills
    – Ability to work effectively with people in neighborhoods, government and ngos
    – Experience working in local Franciscan ecological and natural resource stewardship
    – Bachelor’s degree in some environmental science preferred
    – Profound dedication to ecological restoration and stewardship of our local bioregion
    Compensation & Timeline
    This is a full-time internship at $15 per hour. Currently, the JOBS NOW program is only funded for a few more months, but we hope for it to be extended.
